After months and even years of consideration, The Caregiver’s Voice recently took two more initiatives during our 20th Anniversary.
Secure Browsing Experience
Since the all-mighty Google mandated that by October 2017, websites without a secure connection (http instead of https) may include a browser notification – “Your connection to this site is not secure” – we finally took the https leap.
With the help of our webmaster, we now offer you a secure browsing experience, like your banking and purchasing experiences on secure sites preceded by https and a closed padlock.
The Caregiver’s Voice SSL certificate ensures that you are now able to browse and complete any form on our site, securely.
Removed Social Media Counts
While our security certificate added an S to our http, we took away the S in share counts.
You know those social media buttons you click on to share an article you like or that would be helpful to your friends, followers, and connections? You’ll see these buttons at the top and bottom of our blog posts.
YOU DO SHARE our articles by clicking these buttons… yes?
Social media platforms are removing their API (application programming interface) that keeps count of how many clicks a post receives. First, Twitter removed the count feature then Google+, and recently, LinkedIn. Only Facebook and Pinterest remain (of the social media site buttons offered on The Caregiver’s Voice).
While seeing 218 “Facebook likes” brings a vote of confidence about an article, we’re foregoing this feature. Some major media sites have also eliminated counts. Since we’re a “tad smaller” than those big sites, we’ll have faith that you, our website visitor, will share the articles you find interesting and of value for your friends, colleagues, followers, and connections.
Since 2010 and about 1,000 published pages of content on The Caregiver’s Voice, I’ve gone back and forth about share counts with webmasters. Writing this brings to mind an unrelated side note. We lost 12 years of content since our launch in 1998 through late 2009, after we switched to a new webhost in early 2010. Patiently – eight years later – we let go of the share counts.
Enjoy a secure browsing experience and be sure to comment and share.
