To Overcome Adversaries, Practice “The Ben Franklin Effect”
Ask for a targeted favor. For example, Franklin wanted “to befriend or at least neutralize his adversary.” He asked him for a small favor based on what was important to his adversary. Franklin’s Old Maxim is, “He [who] has once done you a Kindness will be more ready to do you another, than he whom you yourself have obliged.” Do your homework first before asking for a favor. If you don’t, you may experience an unintended consequence.
