If this article looks familiar, it’s from our February issue of The Caregiver’s Voice Newsletter. Since today is Valentine’s Day, here is a republication of the opening letter entitled, Caregiver Self-LOVE: I Matter.
With all the talk of “LOVE” and romance leading up to Valentine’s Day, will you be getting any?
Yes? YAY! No? Maybe it’s time to start showing yourself a little bit o’ LOVE.
Sometimes, we let our stress grow so overwhelming; we forget how little it takes to honor our own needs as caregivers.
When you stop to do something for yourself, you radiate energy that says: I matter.
Caregiving can be all-consuming, but even a short respite makes all the difference. When we practice answering our own needs, we feel more comfortable with ourselves, which helps others feel comfortable being around us. This is important, especially when we need help.
Try a little bit o’ self-LOVE this month. Take a respite. And don’t forget the chocolate. What do you have to lose?
As always, we welcome your comments. It’s one way you let us know that you LOVE us! 😉
