Alexandra (Alex) Denham, PhD student at the University of Newcastle in Callaghan, New South Wales (Australia) is leading the study, “Caring for those who care: A global survey of the health behaviors and health-related needs of informal caregivers.”
If you are an unpaid caregiver, the University of Newcastle research team invites you to complete the survey online. Your responses will help researchers design programs to improve the lives of family and other unpaid caregivers.
The study will investigate the prevalence of health risk behaviors and unmet needs of informal (unpaid) caregivers for a person requiring in-home care.
Unpaid caregivers across five countries who care for someone in any of the following categories are invited to participate.
- Alcohol and other drug issues
- Alzheimer’s or other dementia
- Cancer
- Mental/emotional illness
- Mobility/physical disability
- Stroke
- Surgery/wounds
If a care recipient falls outside of these seven categories, caregivers will have the opportunity to specify the condition.
The survey will be conducted in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The information will help researchers to develop helpful tools and resources to support caregivers in achieving healthier lifestyles, while addressing their unmet needs.
Alex invites you to participate in this study being conducted by a team of researchers led by Professor Billie Bonevski from the Faculty of Health and Medicine at the University of Newcastle. This project has been approved by the University’s Human Research Ethics Committee, Approval No. H-2017-0312.
The survey is available now until June 14, 2018.
