This month, the Caregiver’s Voice focuses on excerpts of articles about reducing symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Like the wisdom contained in the cells of this 1,500-year-old tree, the path to progress includes learning as much as we can and participating in clinical trials.
Memories of music cannot be lost to Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The part of your brain that responds to music – the Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR), doesn’t get lost to Alzheimer’s.
Clicks and Flashes to Treat Alzheimer’s?
[TCV Update 2/14/2022 NYT article, subscription required] “… light and sound delivered to mice at a certain frequency — 40 hertz or 40 flashes or clicks per second — appears to synchronize the rhythm of the brain’s gamma waves, which is disrupted in patients with Alzheimer’s.” This increases the ability of microglial cells to clear out “amyloid protein that forms toxic plaques in Alzheimer’s.” It also clears the tau protein that produces tangles while improving cognition.
Thank you, Ann Vanino for sharing this with The Caregiver’s Voice.
Sleep deeply to clean the brain and prevent Alzheimer’s.
“Depth of sleep impacts our brain’s ability to wash away waste and toxic proteins. ”
Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease Latest News
Researchers at “the National University of Singapore… found that seniors who consume more than two standard portions of mushrooms weekly may have 50 percent reduced odds of having mild cognitive impairment (MCI).”
“Researchers have uncovered an enzyme and a biochemical pathway they believe may lead to the identification of drugs that could inhibit the production of beta-amyloid protein, the toxic initiator of Alzheimer’s disease.”
Clinical Trial Needs Participants in Alzheimer’s
[TCV Update 12/19/2021 URL updated to ClinicalTrials.org listing instead of now broken URL at T2Protect site.] Researchers at 40 sites across the U.S. are working on a new clinical trial for Alzheimer’s disease called the T2 Protect AD study. This Phase 2 study, conducted by the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study and sponsored by Biohaven Pharmaceuticals, is evaluating troriluzole. Research shows that troriluzole may protect against, slow down, and potentially improve memory and thinking problems which increase as Alzheimer’s disease progresses. The study is enrolling people between the ages of 50 to 85 with mild to moderate AD.
I like your article because all these things you have mentioned in the post are from the researches that have been done to improve the condition of Alzheimer’s patient. Thanks for sharing, looking forward for more from you.
