A few days ago, I had the pleasure of participating in a Twitter chat as one of Caring.com’s four experts.
Using #ALZcare, we answered questions and included tips for caregivers who care for people with dementia and its leading cause, Alzheimer’s.
You don’t need to be a member of Twitter to access the information we shared. It’s included below.
Besides me, experts included:
- Paula Spencer Scott, whose book we reviewed on The Caregiver’s Voice Review: Surviving Alzheimer’s
- Dennis Fortier @BrainToday
- Monica Heltemes, who wrote an article, TIPS to Keep People with Dementia Active, for TheCaregiversVoice.com.
Thanks to Denise Graab and Sho Balkian at Caring.com for hosting the hour-long chat, providing additional resources, and then “curating” the content of our chat on Friday, using Storify.
It’s worth a peek to discover diverse views and resources in one place.

Alzheimer’s Care Chat: How to Best Support & Empower Caregivers Now?
[UPDATE: 5/19/2018: This Storify.com chat is no longer available.]
For those who missed participating live,
I will be chatting once more on
WegoHealth’s weekly Health Activists chat
on Twitter Tuesday, November 25
at noon PT and 3pm ET #HAchat
Related topics: Alzheimer’s, caregiving, caregiver, dementia
These are some really good tips! Having a loved one with Alzheimer or Dementia is never easy but there are steps you can take to prepare emotionally, physically, and financially.
I’m sorry I can not be on this chat today. There is a lot of good comments above on ALz but more important on Memory. For 4 years my wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and then changed to Lewy Body Dementia. Had it be known it was supposedly LBD for those 4 years medications woud have been different. I feel the medicial community has let me down and the FDA is to blame for people losing loved ones with LBD. They delayed trials that could possibly have saved my Marie, I am very sad and disappointed. Diagnosis is not easy I know but, I can’t say anymore, I am so bitter abot the actions of the FDA,
Don, I will miss having you join us and sharing your wisdom gained from experience; however, I do understand and even feel your pain of losing your beloved Marie when hope seemed so close. If your schedule allows, you’re still welcome to attend and observe.
Here’s a link that WegoHealth is providing that takes you straight into the room–wait to let the chat stream load.
