I live next door to my parents and have seen how my mom has lovingly cared for my dad who has had Alzheimer’s for the last eight years.
She will be the first to admit she is not perfect and has more than her fair share of “moments;” but every day is a new day.
Mary is an angel who has been taking care of her husband for eight years!

My mother starts each and every day with a prayer on her lips and kindness in her heart. As she helps my dad dress and puts on his socks she thinks of Jesus washing the feet of His apostles and how humbling this is. She offers this and the many other tasks throughout the day to care for my dad.
Mary has not really had a day–or several days off–for the past eight years. Despite getting more and more tired, like a good soldier, she finds the strength to go on.

Some days, my dad, is not sure who she is. I know this hurts her deeply; but she still makes sure he has delicious meals, is dressed properly and that his hygiene needs are taken care of with love and care.
Their days revolve around doctor appointments, therapies, and meals.
Eight years of loving care for spouse….We may take such love for granted; yet, Mary provides it despite her own ongoing fatigue and the pain she feels when her husband doesn’t recognize her.

Her attentiveness to my dad is beautiful.
She is tired, really, really tired but there is always love.
