Celebrating TCV’s Caregivers of the Month

ENCORE – The Caregiver’s Voice (TCV) recognized the following Caregivers of the Month of 2012.

This spring, The Caregiver’s Voice will launch a new website and a new TCV Features program, which will replace our Caregiver of the Month program.

	TCV’s Caregiver of December – Juanita Bradley Despite fighting for her life while waiting for a kidney and dealing with the ill-effects of chemo, Juanita Bradley, still manages to provide quality care. As a professional caregiver, Juanita embodies selfless caregiving, according to Ann Kinard, RN.
	TCV’s Caregiver of October – Donald Mc Cormick Instead of traveling after retiring from the Navy and AT&T, and doing the other things he loves, Donald Mc Cormick has dedicated his life to his beloved wife of 49 years. Marie lives with Lewy body and Parkinson’s dementia and Don sold their dream home so he could more safely care for her in a single-level home.
	TCV’s Caregiver of September – Bob Roney “For better or worse,” Bob Roney, age 90, takes his marriage vows very seriously. Karen Dahl writes: Bob Roney is truly the essence of a loving, giving, selfless caretaker. He’s my dad.”
	TCV’s Caregiver of August – Jim Buckley Jim Buckley is a real hero showing the depth of the human spirit inspired by love after his wife suffers two brain injuries. His wife writes, “While he says I am a hero, he is mine.”
	TCV’s Caregiver of July – Sue Long Sue Long celebrates her 61st anniversary with her husband while unconditionally loving and caring for him as she balances her own need for insulin for Type 2 diabetes.
	TCV’s Caregiver of June – Mabel Ann Romick Mabel Ann Romick has been a caregiver for 30 years! First, she cared for her in-laws then for her husband (since 2000). Her daughter says she deserves the Caregiver of the Century award.
	TCV’s Caregiver of May – Joan Gershman While Sid declined into early onset Alzheimer’s, Joan Gershman felt alone. In 2007 she created TheAlzheimerSpouse.com because she says, “Our issues are unique.”
	TCV’s Caregiver of April – Sheri Zschocher Sheri Zschocher cares for her husband with early onset dementia while raising two daughters. She squeezes time each morning to raise awareness through her blog–a daily account of living with her husband, Bob, and Al (his Alzheimer’s).
	TCV’s Caregiver of March – Cindi Braud Cindi Braud, age 40 is recognized for caring for her 43-year-old husband with early-onset Alzheimer’s while holding down a full-time job and even raising funds!
	TCV’s Caregiver of February –Tammy Campbell Tammy Campbell is recognized for giving it all up to care for her mom despite her mother’s accusations.
	TCV’s Caregiver of January – Claire Abel Claire Abel has been caring for her 102-year old mother for 15 years in her own (Claire’s) home.

In November, The Caregiver’s Voice recognized two finalists for the Caregiver of the Month program.

One is Sonya Coleman, nominated by her 43-year-old husband who lives with Lewy body dementia. The other is Dave Treibel who, according to his sister, stopped in to care for his mom and stayed. Like all our Caregivers of the Month, both are heroes for their commitment and their undying dedication to care for their loved ones. Their stories inspire and give us strength to go on.
