Founder Brenda Avadian, MA, will celebrate a dozen-year milestone with the rebirth (and launch) of a newly upgraded and interactive TheCaregiversVoice.com this Spring.
Founded in 1998 while Brenda Avadian cared for her father after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Moving him from his Milwaukee, Wisconsin home of forty-five years, she and her husband began caring for him in their northeast Los Angeles County home.
From 1996 to 1998, Brenda recorded their daily adventures culminating in a pioneering caregiving memoir entitled, “Where’s my shoes?” My Father’s Walk through Alzheimer’s.
In late 1998, Brenda Avadian, MA, a family caregiver to her father, launched a website. She explains:
At the time, there were only a handful of family caregivers willing to share our stories publicly. Our initial website had humble beginnings–two pages added to a fellow caregiver’s son’s astronomy website.
In 2002, with the help of a child prodigy (who grew up to be a NASA scientist), we launched the second version and fully customized website. This is when we began using The Caregiver’s Voice.”
After fourteen years as a caregiver and/or a spokesperson/advocate and a lot of behind-the-scenes work with MonkeyCMedia , the company who helped us put this newly upgraded site together, we are proud to release this decade’s version of The Caregiver’s Voice.
While many helpful sites have closed during the past dozen years (or are no longer actively updated), TheCaregiversVoice.com continues to be a beacon of light and an informed voice among caregivers navigating through the storms of caregiving.
