We need humor… tasteful humor.
We need to laugh more.
A good bellyaching laugh will improve our circulation, reduce stress-induced cortisol coursing through our veins while making us more fun to be around. We will provide more hours of effortless care, have fun, and our loved one will feel freer and lighter and resist less.
Canadian based, Memoryz, offers four tips to Make Laughter Part of [Our] Daily Caregiving Routine
Some tips are beyond those found in comedy books; for example, “a short daily ‘tickling’ of the ear in people over the age of 55 stimulates the vagus nerve and can lead to improvements in the autonomic nervous system for better health, sleep and quality of life.”
Beyond tickling one’s ear, watch Gregoriden (Greg), one fast-thinking FUNNY gargoyle at the Southwest Airlines terminal in Denver International Airport. Throughout history, gargoyles were placed on buildings to protect inhabitants. This one protects the baggage claim area with a wild sense of humor.
This gargoyle appears to offer real-time responses to adult and younger humans who happen to catch his eye while “talking” that fine line between genuinely humorous and potentially offensive observations and responses.
Despite having flown in and out of the Denver airport a half-dozen times I was unaware of his existence. I will make it my mission to find him on a future visit. After all, imagine how much wisdom an aging gargoyle has accumulated across 243 years! Besides, look how easily he squats! My knees ache just watching his little-contented self, offering funny commentary while effortlessly squatting.
ENJOY!
